The Three Pillars that Unlock True Business Freedom at the Most Fundamental Level

Every time I came back from vacation, I couldn’t stand the thought of going back to the way things were.

My business looked good on paper, but I lost my inspiration. I lost the thrill of the chase. The business felt like golden handcuffs, and I was tired of circling around the same problems.

I’d been on a multi-year hunt. I spent every minute and every dollar I could afford to solve this problem.

  • I sought advice from mentors.
  • I sought advice from the people who had mentored my mentors.
  • In one case, I even hunted down their mentors.

I wanted to get as close to the source and the root as I could.

Bit by bit, I applied the lessons. The more I did, the more things improved.

  • My team became more aligned.
  • My work became easier.
  • I found momentum in the market.
  • I discovered a clear path to scalability.

Even more intriguing, I watched what happened with my clients when they took these changes to heart. They often found dramatic results.

They had found the True Feedom from building their life and business on the Three Pillars.

Introduction to the Three Pillars

I want to invite walk you through my journey of discovering these three pillars. I’m going to take you inexactly the order in which I discovered them.

#3 – Collaborative Strategy

Pillar #3 is collaborative strategy. It means reversing competition and building on collaboration. It means growing the pie, not fighting over your slice.

It means making offers that improves people’s lives. It means finding the partnerships that grow each other’s impact, while making it easier.

It means winning through healthy paths of least resistance.

If you have a successful business, you’ve certainly experienced some of these. And while I don’t believe enough people are talking about this, it’s not that hard to find this line of thinking if you’ve got your eyes open.

I found the next Pillar to be much more rare in many business settings.

#2 – Your Authentic, True Self

Pillar #2 is being able to show up as your full, true authentic self.

Do your true work, and only your true work. Do the work that’s made for you and that brings an inordinate amount of rewards to yourself and to the people you do it for.

While the world loves to buy “copy and paste” templates, systems, and businesses, only a small number of people can successfully take those and run with them.

The secret nobody told me?

Many business owners depend on a persona to build their business. They need to be perceived as someone besides who they were. They fear losing it all if they would show up as themselves.

I’ve been in many places where the business owner needed their trauma and pain to hit the level of performance and success that they’d hit.

The truth I discovered?

If your emotions will be controlled, it will only be by embracing them, not burying them. And you’ll make far better decisions in business when you do.

While you can achieve great results with hard work, you can achieve extraordinary results by working in the flow. Do things that fit you.

However, I found the final Pillar to be the most rare and yet the most important of all.

#1 – Union with the Truth

Pillar #1 is finding union with the Truth. I’ve found that Truth has three expressions.

First is the Knowing Truth. It’s your “inner knowing” and “inner compass”. It’s also these bursts of insights that pop into your mind, when you have no other reason to know.

Second is the Spoken Truth. This is when you have this “knowing Truth” for others, and you share it with them.

Have you ever had someone share something about you that they’d have no reason to know, yet it brought you so much peace? That’s the Spoken Truth in action. I you’ve never experienced that, you deserve the experience once in your life!

(More on that in a minute.)

Third is the Experienced Truth. This is the Truth that transcends words. It takes residence in you, providing love, peace, comfort, and hope to yourself and others.

These are the expressions of Truth. But the most remarkable is what happens when you find union with the Truth.

It’s where I’ve found the fastest growth and highest levels of ease. And it only came when I stopped trying to control my own agenda. In its place, I found a new flow of people and answers coming into my life exactly when I needed them.

It wasn’t merely me trying to attract what I need, or trying to direct what might happen. It was more powerful than mere manifestation and attraction. It simply happened as an outflow of my union with Truth.

Building my life on these pillars finally allowed me to fully show up in my business.

My “100 Proof” Superpower

For years, I’ve obsessed on what it is that puts me in the top 0.01% where I could show up, be completely myself, and provide extraordinary value. I’ve never been interested in competing with the next guy. I’ve only wanted to compete with myself.

I knew that if I took a few things that I was exceptionally skilled at, found a way to bring them together, I’d instantly have a powerful category of one that would be difficult to compete with.

I didn’t just want to look for “skills” and “experience”. I wanted to find raw talent that I had developed into a mastery level.

After years of diluting who I was, I decided to take the “100 proof version” of who I am and put it into a bottle. When I did that, I discovered it had 3 ingredients:

Spoken & Experienced Truth

1. Spoken & Experienced Truth – I remember the first time I encountered Spoken Truth. I was 19 years old, and I had no prior context or grid for it.

I attended a conference for people looking for emotional and spiritual breakthroughs. The gentleman facilitating the session shared a few Spoken Truths, then opened up the mic for anyone who had something to share.

Something stirred inside me. I stepped up nervously, walked over to another attendee, and gave the first Spoken Truth of my life. Throughout the week, I shared maybe half a dozen of these with different folks.

At one point, the facilitator looked at me and asked, “How long have you been doing this?”

He expected me to say, “Oh, I’ve been doing it for years!”

Instead, I looked him in the eye and told him, “This week.”

He was dumbfounded, and he talked about it for years afterward.

Simply put, Spoken Truths are in my DNA. I’ve taken the raw talent and continued to finesse and refine it.

Years ago, I briefly ran Google Ads to offer these to others. I had crazy stories. People experiencing love. People experiencing Truth as if it were a big hug. From my union with Truth, I shared what I saw in people’s lives and gave them hope for what came next.

After I shut it down, one lady called me repeatedly for weeks, leaving voicemails begging me to reach back out because “everything you said happened”.

I’m finally answering her voicemail.

Since then, I’ve all but eliminated mentors who have not found union with Truth. Many of my mentors make specific room for Spoken Truth in their life and business. I’ve gone deep being personally mentored by individuals who’ve been entrusted to accurately share these with high profile business and world leaders.

I’ve also walked through business situations that would make the hair on your arms stand up, while taking step after step as directed by my union with the Truth.

And my work with the Truth is not just about hearing Spoken Truth. It’s also about managing the ‘force field’ of the Experienced Truth.

I remember the first time I physically felt the union with Experienced Truth in my body. It rocked my world. I decided to orient my life around living in that space 24/7. I’ve not only been cultivating that practice for years, but I’ve also cultivated the art of sharing that Experienced Truth with others. It’s not unusual for people to leave a session with boldness and peace they didn’t have before.

Simply put, I’ve combined the raw talent with mentoring, experience, and the Truth force field.

This is the first ingredient.

Empathy

2. Empathy – For as long as I can remember, I’ve understood the emotional world. My second grade teacher pulled out a certificate and handed it to me. Boldly written on it was the word “SENSITIVE”.

My wife has joked that I can probably understand her girlfriends better than she can. (She might be partially right!)

The trouble is, my strength became my achilles’ heel. I had no idea how much dysfunction and codependency I’d been tolerating until my wife, in a moment of inspired frustration, told me, “You need to find a therapist!”

I knew she was right.

When that happened, I doubled down on getting “emotionally clean”.

I did the difficult work of rearranging business partnerships and client engagements, including firing my largest client with a child on the way and a house we were looking to buy.

I elevated my office & life with beauty — Focal Bathys headphones, live edge conference table and coffee table, carefully designed desk, elegant cabinet for storage, nice backpacks that just work.

No reason, except it makes my heart sing.

I’ve also been studying people for a long time. I’m a Kolbe certified consultant.

When my sister left the nonprofit world, I helped her understand her selling style and her role. She stepped into sales for the first time. Her sales manager’s goal for her was $1MM. Because of her ability and small tweaks I was able to provide, she hit $2MM the first year. I can often tell “what is really you” and “what is your head trash”.

When I’m sitting in business masterminds, I often spot when people are trying to fit themselves into someone else’s mold. When you can distinguish between someone’s true self and persona, you can help them find the place of highest impact.

Most people are not talking enough about the SOUL of business.

That’s the second ingredient.

Collaborative Strategy

3. Collaborative Strategy – Finally, 4 of my top 5 StrengthsFinders are all strategic. I often pick pieces apart and reassemble them in less time than it takes for others to explain your problem. I see pathways that many people don’t. I understand root issues, things 3 steps beneath or below what you’re talking about, that are causing the issue you’re facing.

I joked to my friend in high school, “I’m not lazy. I’m just energy efficient.” If I hadn’t been working a job with a boss around, I would have said it with a straight face and meant every word.

I’ve had the rare privilege of diving deep into almost every area of business through my consulting. I’ve got a deep knowledge of marketing, sales, accounting, and operations.

I’ve had well over 10,000 hours in building out processes in business.  When I’m around someone who’s “firefighting”, I often quickly and easily sketch out processes to make life substantially easier.

I recently helped a client grow over 25% while their industry was in decline. My clients have hired me to replace their agency’s copywriter. I’ve consulted with businesses in the top 1%. I’ve studied under brilliant business leaders.

Best of all, I’ve sifted through all that advice to get rid of the restrictive advice and keep the parts that are expansive. And when I wanted to capture one of the most powerful lessons in business, I wrote a book entitled Winning Together.

A Special Invitation for YOU

When I mixed all of these ingredients together, I discovered a space in the middle that I call The Sanctuary.

It’s the place where I finally found the full freedom I had been looking for.

Even more wonderful, I found profound results for the people I worked with:

  • Exceeding goals.
  • Saving their organization from the brink of a shutdown.
  • Freedom to pursue growth.
  • Restful nights of sleep.
  • Doing the work they were born for.
  • And much more.

My friend, I have a simple invitation for you. If you are:

  • A 7-figure entrepreneur
  • Have tasted freedom but still feel limited
  • Are hungry for a taste of full freedom

I’m inviting you into an experience. I want to give you a drink from the “100 proof” recipe that I outlined above.

I want you to dip your toes into a world where:

  • you feel the wind of Truth on your back

  • you leverage your business and resources to their expansive potential

I want to invite you into the place of sanctuary – a place of rest and refreshment, a place of cutting away all the things that are keeping you stuck.

I want to offer you a 15-minute call.

For 10 minutes, you’ll get nothing but Spoken Truth, insight, and strategy. You’ll walk away feeling like a weight has lifted off your shoulders. You’ll have fresh courage and energy for the next step.

And if I think I can help you further, I’ll briefly share with you how we can work together more closely.

I’m here to play at the top of my game. I want to see you do the same.
